Fresno Ed Hardy Fashion Show Review
“What….Is that it….did I miss it?” These were some of the collective reactions of those that attended the Ed Hardy Fashion Show in Fresno last night. The anticipation for this event seemed to be more than moderate amongst local fashion followers and night scene regulars. The hype was definitely there, with bold predictions of a sell-out crowd and a genuine Hollywood fashion show. All in all it was easy to assume that one would at least be mildly satisfied with the $40 dollar experience.
And then it happened, or didn’t happen.. The show started about 45 minutes late. The anticipation and buzz that sorrounded the crowd of an estimated 200 seemed to turn into boredom and confusion as the wait seemed to go on for an eternity. The seating was also very sparse, with enough white fold out plastic seats to accomadate a large high school classroom, as opposed to an event with over 200 attendees. Those that were fortunate enough to land a seat had an up-close view of the unsightly and very short catwalk (it was exposed black plywood).
The Show
The show started around 10:25pm, and the crowd was very pleased to be recessitated from the collective boredom. The models, who seemed to all be locals, did a decent job. Aaron, who we spoke with earlier in the downtown spotlight, looked and acted the part of an Ed Hardy model when he strutted the runway. Other than him the models were short of spectacular. After about seven models, the host Tyree brought all the models onto the stage for the finale. Most of the audience was confused at this point. No outfit changes? No introduction of the Spring line-up? The runway display clocked in at about five minutes. I am not a runway expert and I will admit that I have only been to one other fashion show, but I would expect a little more in terms of duration and quality of presentation.
So What Went Wrong?
It seemed that there was a big error in event planning. One insider said that there wasn’t enough clothes for the models due to much of the money going to airbrushed tattoos on the models. Also more planning should have gone into the seating situation.
One saying that resonates very well in this situation is “Under-promise and over-deliver”. G & S Promotions did a great job of selling the sizzle of a “true” Ed Hardy fashion show that was going to be unlike anything Fresno had ever seen. The hype and anticipation was abundant at the beginning of the night, but I’m sure one would be hard-pressed to find an attendee who was truely satisfied with the show.
So Was There a Silver Lining?
The hosting venue, 2039 Ultralounge, as usual looked and sounded fantastic. The security was a strong point all the way from the parking garage to the front door, and the bartenders and service were what I have come to expect from 2039.
The downfalls were credited to the G & S promotion team and not the venue.
Other positives are hard to pinpoint, but the red carpet set-up outside the venue was one of them. It was a great Hollywood touch, and should have been the perfect start to a true LA inspired night. Also big ups to Cover Magazine who were taking pictures, and have been a great asset to the local Fresno fashion scene. Also I was very pleased to see Tyree hosting the fashion show. Originally Syrus of MTV’s the Real World was inked to host the event, but I think Tyree was a great replacement.
The CROWD was the Show!!!!
The audience came dressed to impress and most were sporting Ed Hardy Clothing. Fresno really knows how to represent and support the designer.
Final Thoughts
It is very difficult to end on a positive note, but much of the frustration of those that attended was due to the build-up for the event and the lack of satisfaction. When you pay $40 dollars a ticket and are promised such a great experience, you expect a little more.
Club Fly’s photography covered the event and did another fantastic job. For Pictures of the event, please visit:

I have to agree with this review. I must say I wanted G&S promotions and the 2039 ultra lounge to produce what they had promised too. I felt bad that the event turned out the way it did. I was very disapointed. I know many of my friends were there and expressed the same emotions as I did. I was waiting for the $1,000 dollars that were suppose to be passed out, maybe I missed it, but I did not see any prizes, all I saw was one model take of his shirt and throw it too the crowed. I felt robbed out of my money… many people were leaving the club and heading down to roe. I am very passionate about downtown and was hoping for the history in the making that was promised. I was excited for them but was let down.

I was apprehensive about spending $40 ($80 for 2 people) for this
event. Fresno events can be pretentious. The fashion show was
short. One model tossed a ‘Fruit-of-the-Loom’ tee shirt to a crowd
member near me. There were many people in tee shirts, ball caps and tennis shoes (where is the dress code?).
The music was excellent. I could have spent $25 for the event.
I wish I could get some of my money back.

What a shame, another opportunity for Fresno to stand out and do somthing bigger then expected and they blow it. Its not the city its self but the weak promotion squad put together for the event. What a joke, a pile of promises followed by a huge lack of commitment to come through and offer a show like no other . ED HARDY a HUGE name like that please tell me why would you cut corners . They built a cat walk wich looked as if it were possilbly going to break at one point, the models were just regulars from the club the fake tattoos were a waste of cash that could have been placed in other directions who needs fake tattoos when your clothes are designed after tattoos were we supposed to go to see fony tattoos or a clothing line next time these people throw a fashion show I hope they say what’s really going to go down on the flyer this flyer should have said ” mediocore fashion show with huge brand name arrive late cause show will not start on time make sure to bring your own ed hardy clothes so we can all look at each others shirts since we will only have a few of are own clothes to show and if you miss the show go out you’ll see the same people were using as models at the club every weekend any way .. Thank god at least it was held in a great place other wise I’d say this was a total waste of time and money …. way to go guys awesome job ….
P.s.
Very good writing sir I look forward to your next piece .

Well!
It really is a shame that it went down that way. That, flat out, sucks!
I was pretty excited to hear about the lounge hosting an event this “big.” But, I guess I should have known it wouldn’t be so great when I didn’t see it advertised anywhere, except in a slew of MySpace bulletins from the promoters.
With a name like Ed Hardy, the fashion show could have really been great if properly executed, but if what I just read is true, the final product is inexcusable.
Proper planning and promotion is something that all host venues and promoters should pay special attention to. If you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all!
I can’t help but feel that a good amount of blame belongs to 2039 for hosting such a shell of a show and not making sure they host quality over hype. I really want to support downtown entertainment and revitalization efforts, but I have never seen an ultra lounge operate, advertise, or present itself as this one has… and that IS NOT a good thing.
Did they turn down those obnoxious lights yet?

Did anyone stick around to see if they had the color-changing, movement coordinated floor feature? They promoted it but I didn’t see it while I was there. My party left shortly after the fashion show.

I’ve been to a few local fashion shows and this one is bar far THE WORSE one. It’s shameful that it was even called a “fashion show.” I could have saved myself $40 by going to Metropark if I wanted to look at some Ed Hardy tees. The entire show was a disappointment.

Michael,
Much Thanks for mentioning ClubFlys.com and for linking to our gallery of photos for the event.
Someone asked about the sound activated dance floor. The answer to that question is “No”. There was never a dance floor with lights at any time during the night.
And there wasn’t any $1000 worth of Ed Hardy merchandise passed out to those who attended the event.

Wow…is all i can really say. I expected more from this show. The only thing i have to say is that G&S ruined the whole possibility of someone else hosting an event in the Fresno area. Becuase the next person in line might be able to bring a great event and actually manage to put Fresno on the map…but thanks to G&S may never get that chance. Common guys you didnt just blow your chance you blew all of Fresno’s chance. Dont say your the next big thing to hit Fresno if your NOT. But GREAT job to David, SAl and Casper for all the great pictures. Lets just hope that none of G&S is in any of them. LOL 2039 is such a great place to hang out at and I know will not suffer from this embarrasment. We will continue to come out and support our love! KC(the bartender) sweetie great job on those drinks now i know why i woke up with a smile on my face. Lov you!

It’s to bad the show was not all expected. When you are charging $40 cover to get in or producing an event as anticipated, you have to have the funds to back it up in order to succeed and execute it well. Cutting corners will only make the next event fall below expectation as well. It should have been about the models, fashion, and presentation. Music will always be there. Seems as though they had more DJ coverage than anything else. More time and money should have been spent on the over all fashion aspect.

Wow. Sadly it would seem that in Fresno - anyone with a logo can be a “Marketing Person” or event coordinator. Tha Grown & Sexy seems to be no different in that philosophy. When backing an event - you should prepare a budget and if you can’t meet that budget you find sponsors. And if you still can’t meet the budget, you don’t move forward. Sadly, these guys likely don’t and never will get that concept. Hopefully Ed Hardy and the likes will be willing to come back to Fresno to work with a more reputable group. I hope that Covers and ClubFlys do the fans the favor of not covering the disaster and promoting a bad marketing/promotions group.

I agree with Nocomments, comment that was made. I must make it aware that Ed Hardy was never affliated with this Fashion Show. It appears that they just took the name and clothes and used the name to thier advantage, which was not a good one. I enjoyed the review, and hope the G&S promotions along with 2039 had a chance to read it.
A note to G&S and 2039, please read these comments, understand this is not a put down, but a chance for you and your companies to prosper. I want Fresno to be a place respect and not look at as a hoax… I love 2039 and enjoy the venue very much… so to 2039, so pick wisely who you work with!
April 1st, 2008 at 7:41 pm
wow… I am really glad that I did not go. I saw them on KMPH. It’s a shame! All that hype and nothing! Yeah, I made my decision when one of the guys was speaking about Ed Hardy and he did not know much about the guy, only that he was old and did TAT’s back in the day. I like it when people take pride in thier work, which means know your history and background on a legend like Ed Hardy. Represent him in a good light. Well it appears that I made a good decision. Oh and too the person the wrote this review good job. Are you going to be @ the next event at 2039, I believe DJ Skribble is going to be there, but I think the same promotion team is promoting this event as well. I hope they don’t harbor hard feelings, buisness is buisness. You have to have tuff skin especially, when you mess up this big.

Awesome Review! I was one of the show sponsors since I sell Ed Hardy Product it would have been a good deal for more exposure. I anticipated a HUGE LA style Fashion show which I have attended before especially with Ed Hardy’s name on the event it would have been Great! Come to find out I was over promised and under delivered.
As a sponsor we should have reserved seating as promised but when we showed up the seats that were supposedly reserved for us were taken! I talked to the Head of G&S and he told me since I showed up late my seats were taken! Are you you kidding me I helped sponsor this event, my name is on the flier and you want me to stand up!
At the end of the fashion show did you guys hear the names of the sponsors? NO!!!! They did not mention the ones who helped sponsor this event being a flop or not I would have expected to hear my stores name since I gave them money. I was so frustrated with this event that I emailed Ed Hardy Promotions on Monday and asked them if they were anyway involved and they emailed me back, “NO”
The reason why Sryus did not show up is because G&S did not pay Ed Hardy to come out to sponsor this show. G&S did contact Ed Hardy but never came through with the money for the event. When Ed Hardy caught whim of the flier they contacted Sryus so, he would not show up and attempted to stop the show but G&S never returned Ed Hardy promotional teams phone calls.
I could go into more detail but you guys get the Idea.
I will never do business with them again!

This is exactly why people without experience should not be in charge of delivering high caliber events. This applies to promoters, the hair and make up team, and everyone else that was responsible for the shows lack of, well, everything… Next time this is attempted, please feel free to contact myself, and our team so we can show the community how we do it in Los Angeles, New York and Florida.( I do Los Angeles runways 3 times a year) If you have the means around you to have the best people on staff, you should seek them out. Experience ALWAYS beats lack there of. Hope im not to harsh, but after hearing what I have heard and seeing pictures of the event, i wondered if the goal was to have high school students produce the show….And dont blame Ed Hardy, they arent use to having unorganized people throw shows, so of course they arent going to deliver great service. why would they. general consensus:HATED IT….ouch… chad

Atleast 40 Wah didn’t show up. They suck too.
May 7th, 2008 at 1:01 am
G&S is Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack @ 2039, we shall see how this goes. I am not impressed. Hopefully they will change my mind. I just don’t want to get ripped off agian. I guess this is 2039 promotions team… wow, what are they thinking? so beware!
May 15th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
What is 2039 doing? I hear they’re giving these G&S punks another show on Friday, May 16th. On G&S’ MySpace page, they say DeShawn Stevenson will be in the building but the fliers they placed INSIDE of 2039 makes NO MENTION of the NBA star. It’s this intentional omission of facts that make this whole G&S/2039 coalition a bunch of cons.
They must think Fresnans are stupid. What a sham.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:13 am
I spoke with Hector and Mr. Campos about the G&S promotion team, and they informed me that they are locked into a contract with them for a year (which to patrons like us is very unfortunate). They are learning from their mistakes, and I got the impression that they are aware of their miscalculation in selecting a promotion team.
Thank you for all of your feedback!!
May 20th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I don’t even believe that G&S promotions are a true buisness. You have to have a ficticous name I don’t believe they ever filed with the county clerk. I am planning on looking that up. Well I believe there should be legal matters if they are running a fony buisness. Once I find out I’m goind to bring into the light.

Guys Im as legit and big as a promoter period in the Valley. No one has done what I have or will and I have done things here for and in our city on a National leval. I welcome the issues you have at 2039 and would love to fix each and everyone of them you have, I mean that. I will glady meet anyone that has an issue or complaint and see how to adress it. I had nothing to do with an Ed Hardy event or g and s and dont like to hear anyone ripped off or unhappy and agree with you guys. Please email me if you were taken for money or had an issue and I will assure you I will help you get your money back and also take care of any issues you have. Please just email me and I will adress and respond to each valid complaint or issue. Your concearns are welcomed.
Whatever it is I will solve, we will get each sponser happy and take care of each of thier issues or anyone effected. I dont run from issues, I run at them and I agree with thier remarks, they wil be taken care of. I had nothing to do with that event and if I can do a $750,000 concert in 30 days from the ground up and 100 of the largest events period in the last 8 years here, I can surely fix these issues for these people. Most promoters are scum of the earth and fake people with egos and dreams that exceed thier capability, Im a real promoter, one who lives and dies with an event and assumes an emotional role with anything I do outside of the risk that goes with making or losing money. You will find no one that says I have not done what I said on any leval, small or large. Again, I will take care of each and everyone of your bloggers and or people that lost money or were effected by that event to help out 2039 and the club. Just let me know….Ill meet that doctor on Thursday, line em up! By the way, if you aspire to write or cover events, you email me and I will let you cover some huge stuff I have coming up, I think it will help you some as well. Take care

Yes the Ed Hardy Fashion Show was a completed disaster. It did not live up to about 90% of what it promised. The fault lies with one man that made and was in charge of all major decsions for the show. Dennnis Rozadilla 55-696-5456… I’ve heard certain individuals are pusuing a lawsuit potenial with this guy. He pretty much lied and cheated a lot of important people. The fact that he was allowed back the same venue where completely flopped is beyond me. Diffently some bad decesions made again by 2039 management to get involved with Dennis Rozadilla again. I also heard that Hector the new manager agreed to completely one sided contract benefiting Rick and Dennis. Giving the door renvenue on friday & saturday nights. Why??? Nobody know exactly why, could have been Hector manager @ 2039 inexperience or the smooth talking of Dennis… Rumor has that money might have magically appeared in Hector’s hand?????
The truth is Dennis is not a promoter. He doesn’t have any pull of following. He is best know for his Ed Hardy Flop. He currently distancing himself from G&S promotions which was created by George Benetiz.
