2039 UltraLounge
My anticipation for this opening has been growing for quite some time now, and I have finally had the chance to check it out first hand. I entered the 2039 Ultralounge at 4:00pm Tuesday, and I was pleased to see a steady flow of customers that made up an eclectic array of patrons.
My first impression was positive, although aesthetically it was just short of phenomenal. Honestly, with the anticipation and excitement that I was harboring it would be difficult for any venue to live up to my expectations. The interior sported warm lighting and the color choices ranged from adobe clay and tan, along with other warm colors. It took a few moments for me to warm up to the color choices, but it quickly grew on me. I was expecting a bit more in terms of ambiance and maybe art work on the walls, but the clean uncluttered look worked very well. The bar was a bit small but well stocked. The bar island was thick concrete that had a glazed look to it. A very nice touch. It is hard for me to judge the 2039 Ultralounge based on looks due to the fact that I haven't seen it in all of its night life glory.
I was seeking an interview with GM Steve Sorondo, but he has been extremely busy in preparation for the highly anticipated grand opening. Instead I was fortunate enough to speak with the bartender Aaron. Aaron had an amiable disposition, and made me feel very welcomed. Aaron has been bartending for 2 years and most recently worked at the Beauty Bar in the Mission District of San Francisco. Aaron is new to Fresno, and is moving into the H Street Lofts!
He let me know that the Ultralounge has some steady clientele, and that employees from the IRS frequent the lounge during the lunch hours. He also parties at the 2039 Ultralounge on his days off, which speaks volumes. It's not often we want to hang out where we work! Aaron said that last Sunday DJ Bradley really had the crowd going.
